“Tony, my son is about to spray his classic mini. It’s his first time painting so what advice would you have for a beginner? He’s going to paint the roof with a different color than the body, should he go roof first or vice versa? Thanks.”
Hopefully Chris is spraying with two-stage paint which is base coat clear coat. I recommend painting the roof first. You don’t have to go crazy with masking.
You can have the whole car prepped and just run a plastic around the bottom of the car and paint the roof whatever color you want to paint it. Then, you could fold up the sheeting, the plastic and cover the roof and paint the body with whatever color you want to paint it.
Once done, you can take all of your masking and clear everything at one shot, which is the easiest way.
I’d also recommend to clear the whole thing with 2 to 3 heavy coats of clear coat. If you still haven’t, download your FREE 85-Page Auto Body And Paint Manual and get loads of awesome information on auto body work and paint.
