The #BossPainter is back in Hawaii! I’m in quarantine for two weeks but it feels great to just be back home. Today’s highlight question is How To Fix Cracks on Paint.
I’ve been pretty busy this past couple of weeks. I got stuck in Japan more than I intended to due to the Coronavirus situation. But now I’m back home and excited to start working on my projects. 💪

Question: I’m spraying clear coat with an Iwata LPH400 at 30 psi w/ 1.4 tip. I keep getting bugger like deposits in the cc. What might be causing it? I’m hoping I’ll be able to sand them out and buff them.
There are many factors and reasons that may cause that. It may be your clear coat. Did you strain your clear coat or did you take out your neck filter? You have to make sure to keep your neck filter in the spray gun to filter out the bad clear coat. It may also be a gust of wind and dust dropping in or a dirty hose.
Question: Can I put a pearl white over a single-stage Olympic white color?
Yes, absolutely. You can put 5-8 grams in a half a gallon of paint. Keep in mind that the more coats you put, the more lustrous it becomes.
Question: I sprayed some base and got some sort of orange peel texture. I went over the base with 2000 to flatten it out then cleared it. Is this okay to do?
Yes, you can do that. It’s better to get your base to lay on flat. You just need to make sure not to put some wax and grease remover on it because you’ll melt the base coat.

Question: How long does clear coat last unopened?
It can last years if unopened as long as it is stored in a dry area. But when you open it, make sure to mix or shake it really well when you’re going to use it.
Question: I just sprayed black Vette and it’s hot and humid. The first coat clear was perfect and I waited 3 hours. It was so dry to touch and the 2nd coat was full of cracks. I put the first coat too heavy. What should I do? Sand and start over?
You shouldn’t wait for three hours to put your second coat. Once you’re done with your first coat, you should be ready to put your next coat, especially in a hot and humid environment. Give it a ten minute flash time. Three hours is way too long.
If you have cracks, the only way to fix it is to sand it all down and repaint it.
