Can You Clear Over A Single Stage? || Car Paint Priming Tips and More Autobody Q&A

Paint is one of the most expensive parts of a car and you want your paint job to look fresh and clean and not faded or chipped after just a few months on the road. To do this, you need to prep your car properly before applying paint. This will ensure that your primer lasts long enough and looks good -by car priming. QUESTION: Should I prime before the seam sealer or after? (car priming)

It actually doesn’t matter so you could prime it, seam-seal it, and then prime it again. Then you could just put your paint right over that. (car priming)

QUESTION: Do you have to prime over 320 or paint over it? (car priming)

So if you’re doing a single stage paint, you could paint a single stage over 320. It’s gonna seem like it’s a little bit on the core side. But if you’re spraying a single stage and you lay it on thick too -medium wet, heavy coats, you’re going to cover it but if you’re going to be doing like a black or a dark color, I would go a little bit more -go 360 and you’ll be fine.

For most of everything I do, I’ll prep the 400 for base coat, clear coat, or single stage. However, if you’re doing single stage, and you have some areas on the car that are kind of a little rougher, maybe a 360, and then you got 400 for the most part, the single stage will cover it, you’re not going to have an issue.
