Painting With Candy, Flake and Pearl Coat

Did you enjoy this video? Check out the LABAP VIP Course that will help turn you into an auto body and paint pro, from home!

Learn how to custom paint and pump out crazy designs from home! Custom paint your car, truck, bike or anything your heart desires. In the short video above we did a Gecko design on the trunk lid.

Here’s How I Did This Custom Paint Job – Painting With Candy, Pearl and Flake…

First, you want to spray your choice of base cost. I chose to spray a white base coat over the trunk. Let dry for about 20-30 minutes.

Second, you would spray clean water through a spray bottle over part of the area that you would want a bubbly or scaly look to appear.

Third, you would spray another color base over the wet beads of water. You can spray as a fade or directly over. As a fade will give you a more natural look. Again, it depends on what look you are trying to achieve.

Let dry until water fully evaporates, you can use a heater or heat gun to speed the process. Be sure not to burn your paint.

Fourth, wet sand the entire area smooth. Use a 2000, 2500 grit paper to cut off rough edges.

Fifth, you will want to clear coat the panel 2 – 3 coats of clear. In the example above we added in an extra step and sprayed 3 coats of candy lime, let that cure and flash, followed by another 2 coats of plain clear with a little micro sequence flake in it.

Painting with candy, flakes and pearls are amazing. You can mix up any custom look you desire. Let your imagination run wild and create a look that nobody else has!

That’s it, it’s pretty simple once you get the hang of it…

  2. Tony,
makes me want to airbrush little sharks and sting rays and different color fish with blues and greens as base and second. Now I know this is not cool in the traditional sense of your bad a$$ cars, but I still like it.

  4. I would like to airbrush a 2,5m x 0,6m panel with basecoat colours onto basecoat and then clear coat the whole panel, but I don’t think I can finish the airbrushing in one day. I have been told that I must clear coat after about 30 minutes of applying the basecoat or else the clear coat will flake off. Can you help in this regard.
    Thanks Dennis
