The #BossPainter is back with another Q&A video. It’s Tony and thanks for joining me. Today’s video is entitled Frame Repair Advice on 1994 Mustang GT.
Here’s the question from Richard:
This is a 1994 Mustang GT Convertible to work that I got from a co-worker. There’s a 3.5” deflection on the driver’s side and about 1.5” deflection on the passenger side measured between the edge of the hood and the lip of the fender.
This car has a lot of new parts such as the new leather interior and many other mechanical parts.
My plans are to fix and keep the car, and eventually give it to my 13-year old grandson, who loves cars, when he gets old enough.
My thoughts are to take it somewhere to get the frame straight and do the rest of the work myself with the help of my grandson.
The big question is can the frame be straightened? If this is possible, the rest should be fairly routine.
I have taken it to a restoration shop that works on older cars and said that it could be fixed. Not cheap, but it can be done.
I hope that this is not too late to get a response, but would appreciate your thoughts to know if I am on the right track.
I think that’s a good idea. If you don’t have a frame machine, take it to a frame guy. They’ll charge you by the hour, just make sure you find the right shop.
It might help if you give them some of the parts like the hood and the fenders because it helps to have the body parts available when straightening out frames so they can match it up and have a good alignment.
You might want them to make a rough draft with at least the hood and fenders on, when working on frame and radiator support. Sometimes you need to pull to make sure your hood closes.
As for your question if the frame can be straightened, yes absolutely! It can be done.
When I look at the pictures, it seems that your bumper support is in good straight condition. It just looks like it got clipped toward the edge.
Additionally, your radiator support and eye socket for your headlights are tweaked and not your frame which is below it.
What I advice you to do is take the front cover apart with all these parts and take a picture of it head on and looking down so I can advise you more.
I wonder if this is a salvage title or clean title? It’s beneficial for you if this is a clear title, for resale purposes.
