QUESTION: I seem to run my paint on the outside corners from the hood to the fender. Any pointers to avoid this?
Yes, probably. I think you’re spraying it just a little too thick. You don’t want to end on the line and you want to kind of overpass into the fender a little bit more like 4-5 inches. So don’t just end on the line because you’re getting thick if you shoot. And then you start again on the other side and you’re getting a lot of coverage in this area.
This is where you’re going to get the build-up on edges so you never want to do that. Go all the way through a little bit, all the way through, and when you pick up on the other side, the same thing you’re coming through.
So you’re not ending on the line, you’re ending on the other side. One way you’re ending at the other way, that’s how you do the proper coverage. And hopefully, it does make sense.

Basically, if you know these principles of painting, you’re going to always get a glossy paint job. You’re going to reduce orange peel, or probably even don’t even have any orange peel. And you’re going to reduce paint runs and sagging and get great coverage with metallics, pearls with flakes, and everything.
So it’s going to be a pretty awesome, I think probably one of my best mini-training courses. It’s basically going to cover how to get amazing paint finishes. No matter what type of spray gun you’re using.
If you have a decent good spray gun – it’s better. With a crappy spray gun, you can still get good paint jobs because professional people who know how to paint can manipulate a crappy paint gun and make it look good.
But I wouldn’t recommend getting a crappy paint gun at least get a good medium grade. That’s why I like the ATOMS, they’re great medium-grade spray guns. Good quality works every time and I use these guns a lot. So keep an eye on that if you guys want to make sure you get this new training you just have to make sure you are on the Learn auto body and paint the main newsletter.
