Hello #BossPainters! Iām streaming from Japan and todayās burning question is entitled How To Select A Spray Gun Tip Size For Car Painting.
Before anything else, Iād like to wish everyone well and I sincerely hope that all of you take care of yourself during this challenging time.
Itās a crazy week and everyoneās asked me why Iām flying back to Japan when everyone should stay indoors. Itās because of my family. My daughter and I flew back to Japan to be with my wife and other daughter.
My wife and my special daughter, Ally has been staying in Japan for Allyās treatments as itās more cost-effective compared to healthcare in the United States.
Letās talk more about this pandemic. Japan isnāt hit as bad as the United States. Although, they are taking extra precautions such as postponing the Olympics. However, they havenāt imposed quarantine yet.
I heard the United States is the new epicenter of the CoronaVirus. Hence, I really wish everyone well and it is better to practice social distancing and stay home. Letās help our healthcare frontliners by staying home to prevent the spread of the virus.
The job report just came in and the unemployment rate is rising. Times are stressful and I know itās taking the toll on everybody. What I would suggest everyone to do now is to stay home, eat healthy, meditate and be productive while staying home.
However, letās all try to see the opportunities amidst these challenging times. I know it is difficult but we all can get through this. We just need to keep calm so we can think straight.
As for me I try to think of ways on how to invest in myself through learning new skills and looking for ways to be more productive.
Apart from my online businesses, I also invest in stocks and subscribe in newsletters and training programs to learn more.
Iāve made a video on how to use the GunBudd Ultra Lighting System which will be released this weekend. Stay tuned for it!
Letās go ahead with your auto body questions.
Question: How much paint would one need for a GM 64/65 A body?
If youāre doing a complete paint job, I would say anywhere from 3 quarts to a gallon. I would recommend a gallon to be on the safe side.
You can just use leftover paint on other small projects like motorcycles or a small panel.
A gallon of base coat will make two gallons of sprayable paint. For clear coat, a one gallon setup with 4:1 mixture is enough. Same goes with the 2:1 mixture.
Question: How long can you keep filler primer on a vehicle before painting?
Years. As long as you donāt get any moisture on it. You need to remember that primer is not a sealer.
However, if itās been sitting for years, you will need to sand it down and take the old grime off of it. Then, put a fresh primer on it before you paint.
Question: Having trouble getting waves out of my filler. I tried using a block to get it out.
Blocking should take out those tiny waves. Iād recommend cutting it with 400-grit since youāre probably using something fine. On the other hand, if youāre referring to big waves then thatās your body work.

Question: Whatās the best gun to spray with?
I think you all know what Iām going to say. LOL. I love the Atom Spray Guns. If you head on over to Zoolaa, theyāre doing a sale now. Itās $60 off on the price plus a FREE GunBudd Ultra Lighting System or FREE tip kit. Awesome, right?
I know I mentioned this the last time and showed this to you. Hereās the Atom x88 Infinity Spray Gun.
They sent this to me when I was in Hawaii. Itās beautiful. Do you like the color? Let me know what you think? This model will be released in the coming months. Itās something to look forward to, guys!
It has a nice grip and super high quality. The design to be released will be a split tip. The sample model that I have here is the regular one. This is a LVLP Spray Gun which is excellent for clear coats.
However like I always say in my videos, you can spray base coat clear coat with LVLP Spray Guns.
Watch the video as I show you more about the Atom x88 Infinity Spray Gun.
Question: Can you explain the difference in tips and what they are for?
Itās basically for fluid flow and fan size. The smaller the tip, the smaller your fan is going to be and the less fluid is going to come out.
Anywhere from a 0.8 to a 1.1 is for touch-ups or small blending like motorcycle tanks and other smaller projects. The 1.0 or 1.2 is ideal for door jambs.
On the other hand, the 1.3 or 1.4 is for single stage and base coat clear coat. I prefer using the 1.4 for spraying base coat clear coat but thatās just my choice.
You need to take note that youāll have a little bit more paint coming out on the panel with the 1.4 than the 1.3, but thereās not a huge difference.
Question: What tip sizes will be available for the Atom x88 Infinity Spray Gun?
The standard sizes are the 1.3 and 1.4. I believe they will also have the 1.8 and 2.0 tip sizes.
