Hey, it’s Tony from LearnAutoBodyAndPaint, now talking about spray guns. This topic is all about LVLP Spray Gun – What kind of painting is it used for? Pros and Cons!
The main difference of an LVLP Spray Guns from the HVLP version is you can operate the LVLP Spray gun with a smaller air compressor, even a pancake air compressor since it requires less air volume for your atomization and paint transfer.
Here are the pros:
– Can use smaller air compressor. You can use a 30-gallon air compressor on these spray guns.
It might be more difficult to paint a whole car with these. However, using these spray guns will be a lot easier than HVLP since the latter will need more air volume compared to these.
– Perfect for DIY and pro use.
– Great for clear coat since I noticed, especially on the Atom Spray Gun, is that you’ll have a concentrated fan pattern and you’ll have less overspray on the outside.
– Ideal for enamel and single-stage paint job.
Some people want to get technical and believe that HVLP Spray Guns should be used for base coat and LVLP Spray Guns for clear coat. That is not true since you can use both for any type of paint.
The Atom X27 LVLP Spray Gun that I have here has a high transfer efficiency rate. You’ll have a lot more material coming out, however a little bit more overspray than the HVLP version, but it’s not a big concern and isn’t that noticeable and some people say that it uses a little bit more material because of the overspray. As for tip sizes, a 1.3mm or 1.4mm tip size is ideal for overall car and woodwork painting.
On the other hand, when spraying thicker materials such as fillers and primers, be sure to get a 1.8mm or 2.0mm tip kit.
I did a lot of projects with this Atom X27 LVLP Spray Gun including the most recent lawn mower project. The law mower came out amazing and had super good reviews on it.
For awesome LVLP spray guns, I highly recommend the Atom X27, X21 or X20 Spray Gun. You can go ahead and check them out on Zoolaa.
