Hey, it’s Tony from LearnAutoBodyAndPaint with another Q&A series. Today’s topic is all about Metal Flake Ideas.
Here’s the question from Paul:
“Hi Tony, I want to say that I love your videos and the 85-Page Manual. I have learnt a great deal from this. I am just about to spray my bike with a custom paint job and would like to know if I put down a black and white base coat, then hit that with red or black metal flake. Will the white stay white? I will be using intercoat clear.”
Yes, you can definitely do that. The only thing you need to worry about, is going over the white and if you’re doing a red pearl.
Pearl is a lot finer and will change the color tone of your black. It will turn your white into pinkish color if you put a lot of pearl in it. And turn your black into purple-ish color.
Flake is much bigger in size and you’ll get that flake effect. But I recommend that you test it out on a panel so as not to mess up your entire paint job. I would recommend using an intercoat to spray your flake if you are not too comfortable painting flakes and pearls yet.
I am in the process of doing four motorcycle gas tank and playing our with flakes and candy with them. It will look awesome.
