Hey, it’s Tony from LearnAutoBodyAndPaint with today’s Q&A session about Plastic/Rubber Bumper Repair.
Here’s the question from Henry Dixon:
“Hey Tony, my Toyota got hit the rear the other day, I was wondering if the rubber bumper can be pulled out somehow or do I need to replace it?”
Since you’re VIP Henry, you need to go to the LearnAutoBodyAndPaint VIP Program and search for bumper repair.
I have a few different articles and videos that show you the different types of bumper repairs.
This looks like pretty severe, but it can be repaired. All you have to do is get a heat gun or a hair dryer and make sure to get it nice and hot. Then, push that from the back or drill holes in it and pull it out.
There are also plastic glue gun pins that can be welded to it and pull it out. Just make sure to make it really hot.
You then, sand it, scuff all around in this area, with 80-grit sandpaper. Then, use body filler. Some people say body filler will crack. It will definitely crack if you hit it at a certain extent.
It looks like this was repaired before because this is how it will look like when you repair it,
You’ll get paint cracks if you hit something really hard. Body filler is flexible to a certain extent.

Repairs always make more sense to me, only if the vehicle is not too old. If it is, replacing should be done quickly.
